In mid-April, ADMA chaired a meeting of twenty worldwide DMA’s in London to discuss critical issues affecting the future of marketing and advertising. Mobile Apps Under Scrutiny

High profile app developers are facing increased scrutiny as a result of a class action lawsuit being launched by 13 smartphone users in Texas.

The companies named in the lawsuit include Apple, Path, Hipster, Twitter, Facebook, Yelp!, Foursquare, Rovio (Angry Birds) and Zepto who have allegedly being collecting and storing user’s address books without users’ permission. Continue reading

eBay’s Global Privacy Leader Speaks About Privacy and Trust

ADMA caught up with Scott Shipman, eBay’s Global Privacy Leader, recently and captured some great insights into how one of the great success stories for Web 2.0 views privacy. In the interview Scott reflects why its important that the privacy office is an enabler, a function that the business can go to to find solutions not road blocks.

Interestingly, eBay doesn’t see business and privacy as being at odds with each other because both functions share the common goal of delighting the customer and building trust.

Group Buying looks to Drive Loyalty

A Telsyte, Australian Online Group Buying Merchant Study 2011 has estimated that the
group buying phenomenon is growing at an amazing rate with the industry estimated to be worth about $400m by the end of the year and growing 72% every quarter. The same study revealed that 94% of merchants are satisfied with their group buying promotions and 85% of merchants were looking at another group
buying campaign.

Data breaches and how they should be managed

In recent times there have been some high profiles cases involving data breaches which have included telecommunication, technology, and other organisations. One of the companies involved was found to have breached the Privacy Act.

So no wonder many are again revisiting a recommendation from the Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) that mandatory data breach laws be introduced. Indeed some laws exist in Europe, United States and Japan.
